In 1954, Julie Andrews made her Broadway debut in this charming musical comedy. Now, she has directed a fresh version of the show to share with a new audience. This Chicago Premiere is part of a national tour produced by Goodspeed Musicals.
The Boy Friend features a cast of 18 of Broadway's most talented singers and dancers, including Jessica Grove (Thoroughly Modern Millie) in the lead role of Polly Browne opposite Sean Palmer (Saturday Night Fever) as Tony.
Behind-the-scenes is an "A-list" creative team including choreographer John DeLuca (whose credits include Broadway's Minnelli on Minnelli, Chita and All That Jazz featuring Chita Rivera, and the national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Music of the Night). Scenic and costume design is by Oscar-, Emmy- and Tony Award-winning Tony Walton (whose many Broadway designs include the recent revivals of Our Town, I'm Not Rappaport, The Man Who Came to Dinner and Annie Get Your Gun.) Walton recently received the Oscar Hammerstein Award for lifetime achievement in musical theater.
The Boy Friend is produced for Goodspeed Musicals by Executive Director Michael P. Price.
