In this gender-reversed take on Verdi's tragic opera Rigoletto, a queen and her jester get caught up in a cycle of betrayal and revenge concerning a diabolical curse and courtly machinations that result in unforeseen consequences. This world-premiere adaptation by Aaron Adair was the winner of a playwriting competition at Babes With Blades Theatre Company, which specializes in finding and producing female-centered stories featuring choreographed stage combat. Active since 1997, the troupe stages two productions per season, most of which are developed in house. Learn More
Quotes & Highlights
“The Electric Baby is illuminating. It made me care about these strangers’ lives. It made me misty for their losses and their gains. It inspired me to believe in the magic of a moonbeam.” —_"Chicago Theatre Beat":http://chicagotheaterbeat.com/2013/05/22/review-the-electric-baby-rivendell-theatre/ (3.5 stars)
“Though riddled with tragedy and loss, Stefanie Zadravec’s play is an often humorous, beautifully told tale of redemption, forgiveness and hope.” —Chicago Stage Standard stars)
“Zadravec deploys her endearing quirks with a good amount of grace and conviction … H.B. Ward and Meighan Gerachis, in particular, are painfully (I mean, painfully) good as the average couple.” —Chicago Reader
