Master mandolinist Frank Solivan and his D.C.-based band Dirty Kitchen are a popular draw at bluegrass festivals nationwide. Along with banjoist Mike Munford (2013 IBMA Banjo Player of the Year), guitarist Chris Luquette (IBMA Instrumentalist of the Year Momentum Award winner) and doghouse bassist Dan Booth, Solivan cooks up a veritable bluegrass/newgrass stew. Consider them torchbearers for the new generation of progressive bands, taking bluegrass from its traditional roots to a younger, broader audience. See them perform live on the heels of their latest album release, Cold Spell. Opening for the group are roots music newcomers the Barefoot Movement, who're gaining a reputation for lush harmonies, thoughtful instrumentation and memorable melodies -- all performed in casually shoeless mode.
