Travel back to a time of big hair, shoulder pads and leg warmers with Hey! Dancin'! Hey! Musical!, the '80s musical based on Factory Theater's hit comedy, which Time Out Chicago named one of the best plays in the city. Set in Chicago in 1986, this hilarious musical is packed with original songs that evoke everything from the power ballads of Heart to the feel-good synth-pop of The Pointer Sisters and Glenn Frey. The story follows teenagers Halle and Trisha as they finagle their way into the final taping of the hippest cable-access dance show in the Chicagoland area in the hopes of finding true love. This play deals with a family holiday dinner where all the people present have some connection to a healthcare insurance company where the patriarch is the CEO. Primarily the play evolves around a case involving a person who was refused a claim for a liver transplant where the refusal was based to some extent on an undisclosed preexisting condition. Different people—the CEO's spouse, his two sons and a few others—have diverging points of view about that situation and their responsibility to society vs. their company stockholders. Its a very interesting plot and very, very well acted as well. Bravo to all concerned for this timely and masterfully delivered play.
