Members Who Went Said:The play was authentic, true to the era entertainment. While it was longer than I expected it did keep my interest throughout. The actors are very talented. My only let down was I didn't feel the scenes called for much of the profanity used. I stayed for a discussion after the play and the question of the "N" word was raised. That is the one word that DID fit into the era of the play and the scene that was being acted out. I am not old enough to attest to this, but from what I have heard from older people men didn't use profanity as freely around ladies as they use it today and it was used frequently in the flashbacks. This was not enough to keep me from recommending the play to others

About Court Theatre: Since the Court's founding in 1955 at the University of Chicago, its work has been inspired by the belief that classic theatre illuminates the stories and themes that are timely and timeless. Each one of the theatre company's provocative productions has guided its artists and audiences on an exploration into the vast human consciousness, and has created a timeline that connects the present to the past. Theatre, and classic theatre in particular, gives us insight into the past, understanding of our present, and directs us toward our future. About Court Theatre: The Court Theatre, designed by Harry Weese, was specifically conceived to accommodate large productions of classic repertory. The space is very intimate, with 3/4 round seating and no seat farther than seven rows from the stage. The Court Theatre formally had its beginning in 1955. In the early 1970s, the Court Theatre set out to create a professional classical theatre with a permanent resident ensemble. A major campaign conducted jointly by the Court Theatre and the University of Chicago in 1979 raised the necessary funds to construct a permanent theatre facility for the Court Theatre. The Court Theatre is one of the best settings in the Chicago area to view great classical theatre. Due to the theatre's size and its intimate design, every seat has an excellent view, and the sound quality is superb. |
