Description

Danny Hoch and Marc Bamuthi Joseph present The Spoken World, an evening-length examination of the impact of hip hop on contemporary theater and performance. Each artist is internationally renowned for both their academic sensitivity and significant performance muscle and will engage in an evening of the full range of their respective skills. Highlights include excerpts of Hoch’s Obie Award winning plays, "Til the Break of Dawn " and Jails, Hospitals, and Hip Hop", and Joseph’s Award winning dance theater works "Word Becomes Flesh" and "Scourge". An informal audience discussion follows the hour-long showcase of hip hop theater at its finest, providing a rare opportunity to dialogue with two pioneering artists who are pushing hip hop aesthetics to their highest level of verse, rhythm, and movement.
