About the Ticket Supplier: The New Colony
Founded in 2008, The New Colony has already established itself as “one of Chicago’s essential off-Loop companies” (Chicago Tribune). Through the premiere of over twenty world premiere plays and musicals, devised through an open, collaborative process, The New Colony has cultivated a diverse audience of theatergoers eager to have a voice in the storytelling. Conversation, collaboration, and innovation remain at the heart of everything they produce. The New Colony’s work has been honored with a Jeff Award, Broadway in Chicago’s 2011 Emerging Theatre Award and Best Overall Production at the 2012 New York International Fringe Festival.
In 2012, The New Colony premiered three new shows in Chicago while also opening a show off-Broadway (“[5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche]’s raw and magnetic dementia seems destined to attract a cult following.” –Ben Brantley, The New York Times) before beginning a national tour. In 2013, the company inaugurated its Associate Company Intensive for recent college graduates, welcomed a new Co-Artistic Director, Associate Artistic Director and Managing Director, and saw its first published script by Samuel French Inc. In addition to three new world premieres in 2013, The New Colony’s 2010 play The Warriors about survivors of the 1998 school shooting in Jonesboro, AK had two staged readings at Victory Gardens in Chicago and Playhouse in the Square in Memphis, TN with proceeds going to the Sandy Hook Fund. Recently, The New Colony’s Co-Artistic Directors were named on Chicago Magazine’s 2013 list of Theatre Scene Stealers.
Come see why The New Colony has been hailed as “the most promising young company to come along in a long time”. (New City) The ensemble of forty young artists are continually creating new work that speaks to a new generation of theatergoers, while also impressing more traditional theater audiences as well.
