The rich, vibrant history of jazz and the blues intertwines with America's troubled history with bigotry, greed and ignorance in Denise La Grassa' jazz musical project The Blues Ain't A Color. Backed by a trio of jazz musicians, Chicago-trained actor and singer La Grassa performs powerhouse renditions of original jazz and blues songs that she wrote with mixed with poignant dialogue delivered by an array of different characters. Both funny and heartbreaking, The Blues Ain't A Color uses the power of music to shine a light on how we're still dealing with, and in some cases, not dealing with, compassion and decency in our country. About the Ticket Supplier: Sideshow Theatre Company NFP
“Familiar Stories. Unorthodox Methods. Perpetually Curious.”
Sideshow Theatre Company was founded in 2007 in Chicago, Illinois by three graduates of the University of Virginia and is an Illinois non-profit organization tax exempt under IRS code 501©(3). Our first show, Dante Dies!! (and then things get weird) was originally mentioned jokingly as the strangest imaginable subject matter for a one-person show. But when the laughter died down, an intense curiosity remained, as well as one defining question: “What if?” From that question a show, a company, and a mission were born.
Examining familiar stories in adventurous and engaging ways, Sideshow Theatre will spare no energy in mining the classic stories, genres, memories and archetypes of the world we live in, providing our audience with a communal experience of exploration. Dante was first on the chopping block, but everything else in the world can officially consider itself On Notice.
