OnStage Playhouse (Chula Vista, CA)
Tom surprises even himself when he falls for Helen, a bright, funny, beautiful young woman who happens to be plus-sized--and then some. This doesn't sit well with Tom's friends, Carter and Jeannie. Forced to explain his new relationship to his shallow (although shockingly funny and sometimes nasty) friends, he finally comes to terms with his own preconceptions of the importance of conventional good looks.

We enjoyed the play. The uncomfortable topic was handled with levity and the actors all did a fine job portraying their characters. I just wish they would have "rose above" and stayed together in the end! This small theater is an intimate setting and that makes it even more enjoyable.
The message of this story was one that people need to see as a reality. It may help to open people's eyes on their responses to people in every day life. The actors were great in their courage to do this show. The only thing I didn't like was the cussing. This is not a show for children.
Again - another great Goldstar event - great production, great cast - love this venue!

An realistic but exaggerated view of society where the characters claim to value what they do not, as evidenced by the ultimate decisions. The drama portrayed by these 4 actors unraveled the weakness and the traumas from childhood invariable showing up in their adult life's Change takes a great amount of courage and wiliness to experience emotional pain, yet the rewards of living a life on your terms are well worth it.
My wife, son and I enjoyed viewing the play FAT PIG. The entire cast was outstanding. The social message prompted thoughts of our attitudes and perceptions of people out of the ordinary and the kind of stereotypes that they encounter in real life situations. Our congratulations to the director and the entire cast for an outstanding performance.

I found the ending to be a little awkward and unfullfilling. The performers were excellent and the staging was unique. I wish the conclusion had been resolved with a little more imagination and maybe even a little intrigue rather than a feeling of being "dumped".
Good acting, set design and intimate venue! We really enjoyed it.
Well done with an obvious love of what they were doing. Great music selected between scenes too! An enjoyable evening!
The last 20 - 30 minutes dragged by and it became a bit boring and depressing. The entire play before that point was very funny and entertaining.
A modest venue. Yet, the acting at this playhouse was excellent! We had front row seats and were able to see the cast members without any problem. I had a great time! Thanks Goldstar!
Thought-provoking, attitude-altering play with good acting
This play rises to that primal need for honesty and personal truth that is at once refreshing and devastating. It holds up a mirror to our collective relationships with each other and recognizes that love and honesty are not always honored. Who loses? This play attempts to figure that out.
This sharply drawn play by Neil LaBute ("Nurse Betty," "Your Friends and Neighbors," "In the Company of Men") not only critiques our slavish adherence to Hollywood ideals of beauty, but also boldly questions our own ability to change what we dislike about ourselves. How much has our relentless pursuit of beauty turned us into an uglier species? And does love need society's blessing to be complete?
OnStage Playhouse is the only live community theatre in Chula Vista, the second largest city in San Diego County. It operates year-round, producing six or more superior plays per year. OnStage has an intimate theater seating 60 playgoers, located near 3rd and F in downtown Chula Vista.
