“The music we’ve selected varies from piece to piece in so many ways,” says Artistic Director Kevin Kumar, “but everything has been chosen to evoke strong emotional responses. Each work has qualities the audience can connect to right away: romance, sensual rhythms and melodies, exoticism, playfulness, yearning, nostalgia, and uncontainable joy. Also, one of our strongest rallying points has been the promotion of tonal new music, particularly the work of Composer-In-Residence Jeremy Cavaterra. Having won over both audiences and performers with his sophisticated sense of beauty, he will win even more fans in this world premiere for the unusual combination of percussion and string quartet. The program might seem arbitrary, but on closer inspection you’ll notice the subtle theme of ‘dance’ anchoring the content of the program.”
Audience members can mingle with the artists at the reception, to be held on the plaza adjacent to Thayer Hall. Complimentary cookies will be provided to patrons by Claremont’s beloved Somecrust Bakery and Café. Concertgoers will also have the opportunity to win a private concert with Artistic Directors Jasper and Kumar, along with many other great prizes, at the silent auction. Also available will be a copy of Salastina’s world premiere recording of Jeremy Cavaterra's Three Neruda Arias featuring soprano Elizabeth Futral – copies of which were in short supply after its January release.
About the Ticket Supplier: Salastina Music Society
The Salastina Music Society is a new non-profit organization dedicated to presenting world-class performances of chamber music. Incorporating the goals of broad audience appeal and innovative programming, Founders/Artistic Directors Maia Jasper and Kevin Kumar purposefully design each program to be slightly shorter than the average classical music concert.
