A recent hit on Broadway, 9 to 5: The Musical clocks in for a new Willows Theatre production. Based on the hilarious 1980 movie about three office workers who turn the tables on their sexist boss, this new comedy features Grammy and Tony-nominated music and lyrics by the film's star Dolly Parton. The rousing story focuses on a trio of unlikely friends who rebel against an overbearing executive and take control of their company, while learning there's nothing they can't accomplish -- even in a man's world. My sister and I thorouly enjoyed this production! Having just visited Italy for the first time, the scenary and the "Italian-ness" of the whole production brought back such wonderful memories. While all the actors were awesome, we particularly liked the roles of the mother and Fabrizio.Written on Feb 13 2012

The cast did as best they could with this musical. As with other reviewers, there really are no songs that stand out. The novel/movie were done in the 60's yet I think the musical was done in 2003. The creators could have made the music much more up to date, exciting, and memorable.Written on Feb 12 2012
I actually enjoyed the beautiful set and the movement of it as it kept it interesting. The costumes were also very well done. It was great to have live musicians play instead of recorded tracks. It enhances the experience. Agree, that there was some uneven acting and uneven signing (a bit sharp on quite a few notes).
Overall, I think the cast did well and they seemed to be enjoying themselves esp. the actress playing the mother. One thing that I wish was more flushed out was the daughter having special needs. There was not even a hint of it before it was revealed. That aspect needs to be made more prominent somehow. Although I haven't seen the movie so I am not sure how it was portrayed. I enjoyed my visit to the Willows and will return esp. for 9-5. Can't wait to see that!
Note: If you are a first timer to this theater it IS hard to find. Look for REI or World Market and you'll find it.
