Millennium Approaches is part one of Tony Kushner's epic and often wickedly wry look at the early days of the AIDS epidemic, the political and social climate of America in the 1980s, and the disintegration of two very different but equally troubled young New York couples, whose fates become intertwined. Its large and wide-ranging cast of sharply-drawn characters includes the notorious Roy Cohn, the now-AIDS-stricken lawyer from the McCarthy hearings, and the apocalyptic Angel, who come together and clash over the personal, the political and the theological. This stirring and powerful work by Tony Kushner (Lincoln) won the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Play. Learn More

The Umbrella Center did an admirable job with this one, although I felt that the actors started their performances a little bit too 'high,' leaving them with nowhere to progress by the climactic end. Having seen the original on Broadway, though, they did a quite admirable job, and the set and painting work was very well-done. Only other comment is that the Center needs to do a MUCH better job of marking entrances and using signage for their shows. The entrance and location for a first-time visitor was extremely difficult to find.
Run time is 90 minutes.
