Seven pioneer women gather to socialize as they sew a quilt in Quilters. A quilt comes together scrap by scrap, piece by piece, in this unique expression of folk art where each patch makes up a facet -- girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death -- of a complete tableau. Quilters, a musical with book, music and lyrics by Barbara Damashek, was nominated for the Tony Award for best musical of 1985 and has been a popular favorite in theaters across the country. We always enjoy the LPT productions, and that is something I cannot write about any other theatre in San Diego!
Steel Magnolias was heartfelt, funny, and so true to life. I know those girls! Both husband and I were engrossed in the show, with great enjoyment.
We went to see the always-wonderful Kerry Meads, but found she was out of the show due to a broken arm, earned during a previous performance! That Kerry always puts her all into everything she does, 150%!

Truvy Jones’ hair salon is a cultural center of Chinquapin, Louisiana. A place where three generations of women can laugh, cry and celebrate together. One of the most popular American plays of the 20th Century, Steel Magnolias is funny, wise and moving – a perfect fit for San Diego’s award-winning ensemble theatre.
Featuring Resident Ensemble members Deborah Gilmour Smyth, Kerry Meads, Colleen Kollar Smith and Season Marshall Duffy joined by Associate Artists Rosina Reynolds & Rhona Gold.
