Inspired by the quirky contraptions of Rube Goldberg, the industrial-themed murals of Diego Rivera and the comic slapstick of Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times, this critically-acclaimed cirque show turns a factory into a high-flying funhouse as aerial artists and acrobats interact with original machines, all in an effort to build a better birdhouse. Starring veterans of the Pickle Family and Moscow Circuses, this colorful, creative combination of clowning, art and industry has both toured internationally and enjoyed a well-reviewed Off-Broadway run, and was created and directed by Chris Lashua, the originator of the German Wheel act in Cirque du Soleil's Quidam. Reserve at Chez Loma around the corner for a wonderful meal...but come early to find parking and REMEMBER where you left your car if you park on a sidestreet! We had a tour of Coronado while my husband tried to locate our car after the show.dining • Feb 24 2014 star this tip starred

I saw the original production in NYC 30 years ago. It's still very funny. I forgot however, that the first act is all about setup and runs very slow (though maybe I've gotten more ADD in the past 3 decades) and most of the big laughs come after intermission. Be patient! Lead actor is very good, but plays character more as a caricature from the beginning. My recollection of John Heard in the original was of a "normal" very shy and unhappy man who gradually comes out of his shell, rather than as a total nerd who saves the day. The rest of the cast, especially Ellard, also turn in good performances.
