This was an intimate venue, my boyfriend and I shared a table with another couple who were very friendly, so it made the night all the more pleasant. The show was very funny. The actors were great, they were very believable, the dialogue was hilarious, and we were actually quite surprised that the show started at 8pm and ended around 11pm. The time flew by because we were enjoying the show. I would recommend this show to those whom I know will appreciate the humor and won't mind such an intimate setting.Written on Aug 08 2010

While the play was long, the superb acting and perfectly timed witty banter between all the actors, coupled with the delightful haughtiness of Lady Bracknell kept the audience tuned in and alert. I laughed frequently enough to stay riveted throughout the almost 3 hours.Written on Aug 02 2010
The costumers did an excellent job of transporting us back to England in the late 19th century. The sofa and small table in the opening scene was adequate enough, leading the audience to anticipate an elaborate set lie just beyond the curtain. It was a disappointment to find otherwise.
The cabaret seating is challenging for anyone short or if a tall person sits in front of you.. Refreshments are adequate, although the selection can stand improvement. Overall a pleasant evening.

I thoroughly enjoyed the satirical witticisms of Oscar Wilde as played by a pretty fine group of actors. They bantered well and carried off the characters smoothly. The costuming was elaborate and quite beautifully done. Given the voluptuous wardrobe and even richer language I was very disappointed by the bare bones set. The minimalistic backdrop was a distraction since the dialogue screamed for an opulent staging. Spider Web, several seasons back had an incredible set for such a small venue and this production could have learned something from their work. The caliber of acting I have witnessed during previous productions at Coronado Playhouse left me cold but this fine performance redeemed the stage in my opinion. Full view of the stage is an issue due to the cabaret style seating. However, I’ll be back.Written on Jul 16 2010

Description
The Importance of Being Earnest (A Trivial Comedy for Serious People) is probably Oscar Wilde’s most famous, and certainly his most quoted play. This delightful comedy of manners is a brazen social satire on the late Victorian ruling classes’ obsession with name and status.
At a time in England when prudery and strict moral conduct were enforced and it was deemed improper for a lady’s ankle to be so much as even glimpsed, and when all people knew their place and position and emotions weren’t to be seen nor heard, Oscar Wilde became something of a celebrity. Society was clean and respectable. Social decorum was everything. Wilde went against the grain both in his writing and in his private life.
The Importance of Being Earnest shows just how fragile that surface is when the beating hearts of our hot-blooded Victorian characters dare to, as Gwendolen puts it, “speak with perfect candor.” Skeletons fall out of closets, young people behave recklessly, the matriarch is challenged and even the clergy has a hard time maintaining propriety.
Silly to the extreme, brilliantly witty and perfectly constructed, Wilde’s masterpiece continues to entertain, to tickle your funny bone, and raise an eyebrow.
