With a total of 11 Oscars between them, stellar film composers John Williams (Star Wars, E.T.), Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings), James Horner (Titanic) and Elliot Goldenthal (Batman Forever) are more than deserving of this concert tribute from conductor Carl St. Clair, guest cellist Sophie Shao and the Pacific Symphony. This exciting evening of music from the movies and more features several premieres, including the debut of Goldenthal's Symphony in G-Sharp Minor. The New York Times calls cellist Sophie Shao's playing "eloquent" and "powerful." This young talent is a multiple award-winner, having scored top prizes at the Rostropovich and Tchaikovsky competitions. There's a preview talk with host Alan Chapman an hour before each concert.
