The Man From Earth is a thoughtful science fiction drama adapted from the 2007 film written by Jerome Bixby -- one of the most successful and prolific writers of science fiction's golden age. Bixby co-wrote the story that served as the basis for Fantastic Voyage, penned multiple episodes of the original run of Star Trek (including the classic "Mirror, Mirror" episode), and his story "It's a Good Life" was the basis for an episode of The Twilight Zone and was later featured in Twilight Zone: The Movie. Bixby's brilliant swan song, The Man From Earth centers on John Oldman, a history professor who suddenly decides to resign. When his colleagues show up at his home for an impromptu going-away party turned informal inquisition, Oldman is compelled to announce his extraordinary reasons for leaving. And what starts as a friendly gathering eventually builds to a shocking climax in this stage adaptation of a powerful sci-fi story. Learn More

I was disappointed with Eternal Thou. I was expecting a more substantive exploration of the topic of the internet's impact on human relationships. The play started well with a look at the origins of the internet, but then quickly devolved into a series of vague and nonsensical vignettes. The staging of the play had some interesting technological components to it, but in the end I could not find a coherent message. I was hoping for much more, since I am an avid technology enthusiast.
