Hedwig's story is presented through a as a rock concert/stand-up comedy gig format in which the charismatic singer takes the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride through the funny, touching, painful and ultimately inspiring experience of being Hedwig. The fantastic rock score has been winning fans and acclaim since the musical first debuted a decade ago. The musical won a Village Voice Obie Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical on its debut. The play was very slow moving. The players lacked pulling the audience into the drama (at least in our opinion). This is my first negative review with a goldstar event and the first time I've ever left a play during intermission. I've been to many events through Goldstar. So we can't complain. Goldstar is a great way to purchase to tickets and I will continue to do so.

I decided to treat my two adult daughters to a night out at the theater, We were not sure what to expect, since we had not heard of this particular venue. Much to our surprise we were very impressed, we truly enjoyed our evening out and would recommend this play for all adults. All the actors were fantastic and brought the story to life. One of my daughters had not seen the movie version of "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" and she truly enjoyed the play!

My husband and I saw this performance together and we both enjoyed it. We thought the actors did a wonderful job in very difficult roles.

We really enjoyed this play! The lead and supporting actors lived up to the high expectations of a film and theater classic. The tone was set from the beginning when "mental patients" were roaming the stage area while we were still being seated. Bravo!

More Information About One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest

Description

Ken Kesey based his novel on his experience working as an orderly at a California mental health facility, during which time he not only befriended patients and witnessed the inner-workings of the institution, but received electroshock therapy and took the same drugs as the patients to gain a deeper insight into their lives.
The play was initially produced for the stage in 1963 by its star, Kirk Douglas, who also bought the motion picture rights but was unable to get a film financed in a studio system afraid of the disturbing material. He eventually gave the rights to his son Michael who was finally able obtain backing for the iconic 1975 film starring Jack Nicholson.

Telling the story from the point of view of Native American patient Chief Bromden, and therefore closer in spirit to the novel than the film, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest is a witty, touching and enduring example of an individual's battle not to succumb to the forces of a dehumanizing, demoralizing society.
