Accomplice, the comedy-thriller now at STAGEStheatre, comes from the pen of Rupert Holmes, the writer behind the Tony-winning mysteries Drood and Curtains (not to mention the soft rock standard "Escape" ("The Piña Colada Song")). With murder mysteries, it's common practice to say that "things are not what they seem," but Accomplice takes subterfuge to the extreme, offering a play-within-a-play that is deviously plotted and full of revelations. What starts out as a seemingly conventional thriller turns out to be much more complicated than simple murder. Awarded an Edgar -- the Oscar of crime literature -- by the Mystery Writers of America, Accomplice will charm and entertain, even as it keeps you rapt with excitement. David Campos directs.
