Work that humbug out with some holiday laughs! Second City alums and veteran Comedy Central writers Peter Gwinn and Bobby Mort have dreamed up this new twisted version of A Christmas Carol, infused with hilarious improv sketches and zany characters written specifically for its cast of L.A.-based Second City alumni. Scrooge, Tiny Tim, three ridiculous ghosts and a cast of The Second City's funniest alums take the Kirk Douglas stage by storm, as wicked satire, daring improv and a host of guest celebs run rampant throughout the Victorian streets. After the curtain falls, and the play is over, and you're out on the street afterward, it rare when the play is still going on, IN YOUR HEAD. The issues and polemics of this play are fascinating - it needs some trimming to the first act, but overall, 10 days later, I still think about it daily and the issues it raised. Excellently staged and performed in every way, this is terrific literate contemporary relevant theater. I hope this play goes far in the future - it has touches of the political disquiet of ANGELS IN AMERICA and AUNT DAN AND LEMON, but it's ultimately a smaller personal piece about gender and politics and how they are inextricably mixed. Don't miss this.
