The Singapore Slingers aren't messing around when it comes to creating an authentic jazz club vibe, circa 1900 or so. Dubbed "the city's coolest, quirkiest retro jazz group" by the Dallas Observer, this crack 18-piece orchestra plays a full complement of pre-swing period pieces, ranging from fox trots, marches and polkas to ragtime, tango, rhumbas and a few you probably never heard of, including The Maxixe from Brazil and the Castle Walk, originated and made famous by early era stars Vernon and Irene Castle. Multi-instrumentalist and Jazz Age enthusiast Matt Tolentino leads the group, decked out in perfect vintage fashion. They've just released their first CD of jazz and pop from the '20s and early '30s, including tunes like "Happy Days Are Here Again," "Zulu Wail," "My Cutie's Due at Two-to-Two Today," "I'm in the Mood for Love" and more, but seeing them live is a truly entertaining and time-traveling experience. About the Ticket Supplier: House of Blues Dallas
House of Blues Dallas opened in 2007 in the historic White Swan Building at the crossroads of Dallas’ West End and the newly established Victory Park development. The building dates back to the 1920’s when it housed a White Swan Coffee processing plant. Home to unique pieces of art such as Alan Sainte James Boudrot’s “A Dream Come True” and S. Guion’s painting of Robert Johnson, this unique and history-rich building continues to celebrate and showcase art and music. In keeping with tradition, the House of Blues Dallas displays the “Crazy Quilt” and keeps a metal box of mud from the Delta Mississippi underneath its stage.
