A powerful one-act drama, Dutchman brought immediate and lasting attention to poet, author and activist Amiri Baraka (née Leroi Jones) -- and this 50th anniversary production, directed by the legendary stage director and producer Woodie King, Jr., serves as the closing event for the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival. Winner of the 1964 Obie Award, the play is a searing two-character confrontation set on a New York subway train that begins playfully but builds rapidly in both suspense and symbolic resonance. Reflective of the racial tensions of the era, Dutchman uses symbolism and the literary myth of the ghostly Flying Dutchman pirate ship to suggest and amplify the play's growing conflict. Your ticket includes choice of entree at the Backstage Cafe prior to the show. Learn More

Hands down, the most engaging, heart-felt, and well-acted piece of theater I've seen in Atlanta and I go to about 5 plays per month and have been in the area for over a year. Do yourself a favor and check this out this weekend before it closes; you will NOT regret it!
