The 39 Steps: Hitchcock's Thriller Adapted Into Acclaimed Comedy
OnStage Atlanta opens its new space with The 39 Steps, the comedic spin on Alfred Hitchcock's classic film that has left audiences in stitches from London to Hong Kong. As in the movie, we follow the dashing hero Richard Hannay (complete with pencil mustache) as he tries to solve the riddle of the 39 steps while staying a step ahead of Nazi spies. But unlike the movie, four actors handle all 150 roles, quick-changing characters and transforming everyday objects into roaring trains, crashing planes and speeding automobiles. The 39 Steps is not only an homage to Hitchcock's 1935 film, but a valentine to the English director's entire filmography ... and to the enduring magic of the theater. Dr. David Klein directs Adam Bailey, Charlie Miller, Googie Uterhardt and Barbara Cole Uterhardt in this quick-witted comedy thriller.
The 39 Steps is not suitable for children 9-years-old or younger.
