From New York-based playwright Cherie Vogelstein comes Love Burns, a pair of comic one-acts set in a New York City coffee house. Date with a Stranger and All About Al explore romantic relationships from the jolt of a first meeting to the perhaps inevitable contemplation of a break-up. Directed by Nicole Stodard for Thinking Cap Theatre, the evening includes live music, freshly brewed coffee and desserts which are available for purchase. Love Burns is part of the company's new Plays with a Bite series. Learn More

The director's notes said he wanted to bring out the reality of the characters. Cora was like Sally Struthers on steroids, and way too randy for Neil Simon. Paul was mugging and slip-sliding all over the stage. Neil Simon does not work as commedia del arte. The Mom was the only one with a modicum of reality. The Vomit Award of the year goes to the set designer for the nauseating red wall. Cary may not be Monet but even she would have much better taste. The bright color green used on the bar was not in the not paint color charts of the sixties.Written on Mar 05 2012

About the Ticket Supplier: Contra Costa Civic Theatre
Contra Costa Civic Theatre was founded in 1959 by Bettianne and Louis Flynn. Their vision was to establish a quality community theatre in El Cerrito . That that vision has been realized can best be summed up by what the East Bay Express recently wrote: "Contra Costa Civic Theatre . . . puts on comedies and musicals, mysteries and dramas from Sondheim to the Marx Brothers to Agatha Christie with unusually solid production values".
