Genius in the Synagogue: Chicago a cappella Sings Max Janowski
The acclaimed choral group Chicago a cappella
salutes what would've been the 100th birthday of Max Janowski, the distinguished composer of Jewish liturgical music, with a concert featuring new arrangements of his works. Janowski was the much-beloved music director at Hyde Park's KAM Isaiah Israel Congregation -- Chicago's oldest -- for more than 50 years, and is famed for his soaring musical versions of traditional prayers like the Sh'ma, Sim Shalom, Mi Chamocha, Unataneh Tokef
and more, along with folk songs and spirituals. Chicago a cappella's artistic director Jonathan Miller leads a post-concert chat following the performance.
