This visceral new version of Herman Melville's whale of a tale takes Moby Dick in a new direction, with the high-flying help of the aerial and acrobatic performers of the Actors Gymnasium. This action-packed production is built to bring you along for the ride with Ishamel, Queequeg and the crew as the famed Captain Ahab sets out to find and kill the giant sea creature that gravely injured him once before. Acclaimed Lookingglass ensemble member David Catlin (The Little Prince), who also serves on the Northwestern faculty, directs his own adaptation of this timeless tale of adventure and obsession. This evening of songs (or song snippets) from a cavalcade of classic Broadway musicals was quite entertaining. Most of the student voices were excellent. The occasional pitch problems were easy to overlook with the enthusiasm and engagement with the material that these young people offered. I definitely recommend this show to others.
The Some Enchanted Broadway Evening series was created and directed by American Music Theatre Project Executive Director Dominic Missimi and David Fiorello, staff pianist for Northwestern’s Music Theatre Program. Fiorello was the music director of national tours of top Broadway productions, including Sweeney Todd and Parade.
