City Ballet of San Diego presents Bravo! Balanchine, featuring three pieces by George Balanchine. Who Cares?, set to the music of George Gershwin. The piece portrays the exuberance of America and of Manhattan, in particular. Agon is a ballet for twelve dancers, with music by Igor Stravinsky. This storyless piece features pairs, trios and quartets of dancers interacting, with several of the dances inspired by 17th-century French court dances. Finally, Donizetti Variations is a cheerful, sunny piece originally created for New York City Ballet's celebration of the 100th anniversary of Italy's unification. Learn More

We laughed so hard we were in tears! This is a great show, the perfect blend of comedy and warmheartedness. The songs are about all those funny little things you think in your head but no one ever says (like, "It sucks to be Me"). You will not be disappointed!Written on Jul 03 2007
Regarding the venue, our seats were in right mezz row H, and view was great. Seats are quite cramped, but it wouldn't keep me from seeing the show. Definitely wear lightweight clothing.... I wore a strappy summer dress and was fine. I would have been hot in long sleeves!

Was sooooooo funny, witty & creative! I laughed so loud! I would recommend it to all my friends, but I would warn them that there are swear words in it & adult situation! Definitely not for children! I describe it as R rated Muppets. Most of the audience gave it a standing ovation. People were happily singing the song, "It Sucks to Be Me" as they walked out. LOL! Brandon at the will-call desk recommended a fantastic restaurant for dinner at the Horton Plaza. It was Napa Valley Grill. Expensive but delicious. The food & service were perfect! All-in-all, a perfect evening out! I bought the tickets on Goldstar at 1pm the same day for the 7:30pm show. Picked up the tickets at will-call w/ no problems & even was given restaurant recommendations. Probably my best Goldstar experience to date! (& there are many great ones!)Written on Jul 09 2007

The Spreckles was designed for little people (and there's nothing wrong with that !) but the seats are just plain tiny. Nonetheless, I was lucky to be on an aisle seat and could stretch out a little. The performance was wonderful, the performers are all outstanding. I had no expectations going into the show and was thrilled with experience. Thanks, Goldstar.Written on Jul 16 2007

Description
Avenue Q tells the hilarious story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q; still, the neighbors seem nice. There's Brian the out-of-work comedian and his therapist fianceé Christmas Eve; Nicky, the good-hearted slacker, and his roommate Rod--a Republican investment banker who seems to have some sort of secret; an Internet addict called Trekkie Monster; and a very cute kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate. Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

Avenue Q opened off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in March 2003, where it garnered rave reviews, and was extended four times. In addition to the Tony Award for Best Musical, the show won Tonys for its creators Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx for Best Score, as well as Jeff Whitty for Best Book of a Musical. It also won the 2003 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding New Musical, as well as a nomination for the 2003 Outer Critics Circle Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical award.
Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx (Music and Lyrics, Original Concept) began writing Avenue Q in the BMI Workshop in 1999, and three years later it was produced off-Broadway, with a subsequent move to Broadway, winning three Tony Awards. They are currently writing the screenplay and songs for a new movie-musical for Universal Pictures, as well as writing a new Broadway musical with Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of "South Park." Their other works include a new Muppet Movie called "Kermit, Prince of Denmark" (which received the coveted Ed Kleban Award) and Ferdinand the Bull, a children's musical for Theatreworks/USA.
Jeff Whitty (Book) won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for Avenue Q. His plays include The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler, The Hiding Place, The Plank Project, Balls, and Suicide Weather. Companies presenting his work include South Coast Repertory, the Atlantic Theater Company, the Vineyard Theatre, and New York Stage and Film/Vassar. Screenplays include "Zora," a feature for Warner Brothers, and an untitled musical project for Paramount with music by Andre 3000 of Outkast. As an actor, he's worked off-Broadway, regionally and in film and television.
Jason Moore (Director) directed the original Broadway production of Avenue Q, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award. His off-Broadway credits include Avenue Q and The Crumple Zone. He served as Associate Director for Les Miserables (Broadway and National Tour) and Ragtime (Vancouver). As a writer, his works include The Floatplane Notebooks, as well as episodes of "Dawson’s Creek," "Everwood" and "One Tree Hill." His upcoming projects include a live-action movie musical of Disney’s "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" for ABC-TV and Shrek: The Musical on Broadway in 2007.
