The quintessential tale of good versus evil, Jekyll & Hyde earned a cult following during its four-year run on Broadway and multiple worldwide tours. Now, the darkly romantic musical comes to the Casa Mañana stage. Based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story, the musical follows the life of brilliant Dr. Jekyll, whose experiments with human personality result in the creation of a monstrous alter ego, Mr. Hyde. Both Jekyll and Hyde have their eyes set on Lucy, a prostitute with a heart of gold. This youth production from Casa Mañana's Apprentice Program, featuring performers ages 14 to 19, is full of gorgeous songs that convey the timeless tale's themes of love, inner-turmoil and the nature of man, including "This Is the Moment," "A New Life" and "Someone Like You." It was good for a regional performance. The people who stole the show were the lead singer and the dancers in the "Beauty School Dropout" scene (which was better than the movie actually). And the actor who did the solo with the guitar was great! Sandy was flat on the performance we watched. Glad we did not pay full price.
This show has mature subject matter and is not suitable for all audiences. Parental discretion is strongly advised.
