_The Wizard of Oz _was first adapted into a play in 1902. The 1987 version, with book by John Kane, music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg was adapted from the 1939 film’s screenplay by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Follow the yellow brick road! Featuring the timeless classics “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” this musical tells the story of Dorothy and her dog Toto, who have been swept away by a twister to the land of Oz. They join up with a Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion and face off against the Wicked Witch and her flying monkeys as they set out to find the wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Mary McElree stars as Dorothy. Christopher J. Deaton is playing the role of Scarecrow, Daniel Rowan Johnson is playing the role of Tin Man and Greg Dulcie is playing the role of Cowardly Lion. McElree has appeared in several Casa Mañana productions including __Snow White and the Seven Dwarves __and __Les Misérables: School Edition. __Deaton, Johnson and Dulcie have all been seen recently in Casa Mañana’s productions of __The Adventures of Brer Rabbit __and Evita.
Additional cast members include Doug LoPachin as The Wizard and Aubrey Adams as Wicked Witch of the West. The role of Glinda will alternately be played by Morgan Richards and Sarah Youngblood.
The production is directed by Joe Sturgeon i with choreography by Nikól Wolf, musical direction by Aimee Hurst Bozarth and costumes by Tammy Spencer.
