Christmas is great, but the pre-holiday period can be crazy. In The Santaland Diaries, comic writer David Sedaris captures the madness of the holiday shopping season. This one-man send-up of Sedaris' brief, misguided career as a Macy's elf delightfully skewers parents, children and holiday consumerism. The main character even pokes a bit of fun at his own cynicism. Jamie Morris reprises his role as Crumpet the Elf after receiving A+ reviews for his performances in Las Vegas. South Florida audiences will know Morris from his his award-winning comedy Mommie Queerest, in which he played mother-from-hell Joan Crawford; his send-up of the 1980s sitcom, The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode, where he embodied the daffy housemother Mrs. Garrett and The Silence of The Clams, his parody of the Oscar-winning film, tacklingthe creepy serial killer Hannibal Lecter. A well written and directed play with an exceptional cast(most playing multiple roles)and a lead actress who fully occupies a modern coming of age story. Only down note -- the air conditioning was not working and there was a full house!
This play contains adult situations and partial nudity. Parental discretion is advised.
Running time is 1 hour and 30 minutes with one intermission.
