In this Pulitzer and Tony-nominated comedy by Craig Lucas, a whirlwind romance and marriage takes a startling turn when an mysterious old man congratulates the bride with a kiss. With this kiss, Rita (the bride) and the man have what could be described as a Twilight Zone moment that sends Rita and her would-be husband on a mysterious journey, as they test the true strength of their love, beyond the surface connections that first drew them to one another. Prelude to a Kiss was commissioned and originally staged by South Coast Repertory in January 1988. The play later went on to Broadway and was made into a feature film starring Alec Baldwin and Meg Ryan. Staged Cinema Productions' performance of the play is directed by David Chorley. Learn More

This was a top-notch production of a very difficult play. The direction, staging and flow were wonderful. The performances were all good, but the women were particularly wonderful. The rabbi (and other characters by this fine actress) and the neurotic, pill-popping wife were spot on and I believed every moment from their performances.Written on Jan 19 2009
The three hour play flew by. A must see!

Well acted and well staged production. The characters were interesting and complex individuals well portrayed by both male and female actors. Engrossing until the end.Written on Jan 22 2009

Acting and pacing was very good. Unfortunately, this was only the first half of this brilliant piece and we wanted to see more.Written on Jan 26 2009
Kristina Leach was especially good as the crazy, wacked out Harper Pitt.
Highly recommended.

A solid cast and nimble direction makes this production of a very challenging play a success. Only wish I could see part two done by this company as well.Written on Feb 02 2009
This is a long play and the brilliant playwright, Tony Kushner, creates a patchwork of huge themes around the lives of very disparate characters during the time of Reagan, AIDS and the approaching millenium. This is a work that could easily become maudlin and overly cynical in the hands of a less able cast and director.
The production values are simple and effective. The sound and lighting create the appropriate atmosphere. But it is the performances that make this production really shine. I especially liked Roxie Lee in her various roles, from the Rabbi in the opening scene to Hannah Pitt.
Go see it if you have the chance.
