An upside-down corpse, a bank robbery and an unhinged police inspector make up Loot, an edgy, quick-witted farce about greed from playwright Joe Orton (What the Butler Saw). The acclaimed 1966 black comedy follows the (mis)fortunes of two young thieves, Hal and Dennis, who have robbed a bank and hidden out in Hal's home with the loot. Hal's mother has just died, so they put the money in her coffin, hiding the body elsewhere. When police inspector Truscott arrives to investigate, havoc and hilarity ensue. Learn More
Reviews & Ratings
One chaotic evening: Three bedrooms. Four couples. Door slamming. Back pain. Jealousy. Sex.
Just like any other night.
Director Amanda DeMaio says, “This is one of the most intelligently written comedies of all time, and it takes a really funny look at four couples at different stages of marriage. I know audiences will relate to each of the characters, and to the marital woes they are forced into dealing with by one inconsiderate couple. Ayckbourn is able to walk the tightrope of high comedy and stinging drama, making for a very entertaining ride!”
