Grand and uplifting, Les Misérables is a powerful affirmation of the human spirit and one of the most popular musicals of all time. La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts presents a brand-new production of this tale of passion and revolution in 19th-century France, which won seven Tony Awards on Broadway and was made into an Oscar-nominated film. Ex-convict Jean Valjean's struggle for redemption and the young, innocent love of his adopted daughter Cosette and the student Marius are set against the tumultuous backdrop of the French Revolution. It's a celebration of the human struggle for love, justice and happiness in the face of hardship, carried forward on a gorgeous score, including the beloved songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "Do You Hear the People Sing?" and more. A reasonably creative and successful adaptation of the well known X rated movie. The sexually suggestive humor was well executed so that it never felt too overused. On the flip side, if you were really hoping for a musical, this will leave you wanting. Save for the main character singing two or three numbers, there's not much music in this musical. Overall, an entertaining evening out.

Very funny and kept us laughing the whole time! Debbie Benton was hysterical. I loved the way she made her character to follow the SNL cheerleader style of comedy. She had a great voice as well!
We were highly entertained all the way through.

The 1978 adult film Debbie Does Dallas changed the landscape of adult entertainment, and contributed to a changing popular culture around the country. It’s no surprise then, that its 2002 Off-Broadway musical adaptation was a smash success. Since its creation, the musical has been performed all over the world to both audience and critical acclaim. It is irreverent and silly as the original film, but unlike the film, there is no actual sex or nudity present in the script—instead there are lavish song and dance numbers!
Debbie Benton is just a small town girl with big dreams to be a Texas Cowgirl Cheerleader. But she only has two weeks to raise the fare to get to Dallas, so she and her cheerleader friends form a small company performing odd jobs for local businesses. They soon realize that ‘side jobs’ for the owners pay a lot more! Before long, no place in town is safe: The library, the car wash, even the sporting goods store is fair game for the girls. But can they do enough to get to Dallas in time? Find out at The Maverick Theater’s Debbie Does Dallas!
