Historic Interviews Recounted in Frost/Nixon
- Full Price:

Peter Morgan's Tony Award-nominated play that spawned the critically acclaimed 2006 film pits jet-setting British TV talk-show host David Frost against disgraced former president Richard Nixon in a battle of wits and wills. Desperate to regain his slipped standing as a serious journalist, Frost seeks to elicit from the Watergate-plagued Nixon a detailed explanation and apology, while the ever-political former president has his own agenda. This fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the famous 1977 series of interviews dissects the electrifying battle between Nixon and Frost, revealing both mens insecurities, ego and sense of dignity as they face off in a historic encounter that ultimately changes them both. Not even free drinks on opening night and an occasionally snappy script could save this belly-flop of a show. Despite a swinging live band, the best costumes of any storefront theater in Southern California, and a subtle comedic performance by Shaun Michael McNamara as Maxwell Smart, this production just falls flat. Would you believe????... that despite some negative reviews on Goldstar for "Get Smart" at the Maverick Theater, I really enjoyed this production! I laughed throughout at the comedy, slapstick humor, innuendos and impromptu audience interaction. Much of the audience of all ages seemed to be laughing along with me. Perhaps it helps to go in with lower expectations and being open to cheesy humor, along the lines of Maverick's production of "Santa Claus and the Martians" from a few years back. Highly recommended.Written on Aug 29 2011

This event was absolutely fabulous! I have not laughed so much in a long time. It was so funny and the players were excellent at ad libbing. There were even two children in the front and the main character changed many of the lines to be acceptable for children's ears. Oh, my ! What a hoot it was!!!! Thanks for a wonderful time!Written on Sep 07 2011
