When a once-great but now-broke Broadway producer and his accountant hatch a scheme to deliberately mount a sure-fire flop so they can abscond with the unspent production money, what could possibly go wrong? It turns out the only thing worse than getting caught is having a surprise hit on their hands. Based on the 1968 film starring Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel, and featuring the hilarious show within a show called Springtime for Hitler, The Producers skewers the absurdities of musical theater even as it delivers one of the best (and most over-the-top) Broadway shows in recent years. With a book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Mel Brooks, the Broadway production nabbed 12 Tony Awards. Learn More
Set in 1950’s America, Grease follows the story of Danny Zuko, a member of the “Burger Palace Boys” gang at mythical Rydell High, and Sandy Dumbrowski, a sweet innocent who has just transferred there from the cloistered confines of Immaculata High. Having met at the beach, they fall in love immediately, but are separated at the end of summer. Thinking they will never meet again, they are surprised to reunite at Rydell High. Their reunion confirms that they are from two different worlds. So when Danny finally decides not to live up to her image of him as an All-American-Boy track star, she puts on tight jeans and a bouffant hairdo, joins the “Pink Ladies” gang, starts French-inhaling “Hit Parade” cigarettes and (naturally) gets her man.
