In this Pulitzer and Tony-nominated comedy by Craig Lucas, a whirlwind romance and marriage takes a startling turn when an mysterious old man congratulates the bride with a kiss. With this kiss, Rita (the bride) and the man have what could be described as a Twilight Zone moment that sends Rita and her would-be husband on a mysterious journey, as they test the true strength of their love, beyond the surface connections that first drew them to one another. Prelude to a Kiss was commissioned and originally staged by South Coast Repertory in January 1988. The play later went on to Broadway and was made into a feature film starring Alec Baldwin and Meg Ryan. Staged Cinema Productions' performance of the play is directed by David Chorley.

Peter Morgan's Tony Award-nominated play that spawned the critically acclaimed 2006 film pits jet-setting British TV talk-show host David Frost against disgraced former president Richard Nixon in a battle of wits and wills. Desperate to regain his slipped standing as a serious journalist, Frost seeks to elicit from the Watergate-plagued Nixon a detailed explanation and apology, while the ever-political former president has his own agenda. This fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the famous 1977 series of interviews dissects the electrifying battle between Nixon and Frost, revealing both mens insecurities, ego and sense of dignity as they face off in a historic encounter that ultimately changes them both. An excellent presentation. It was the first time I had seen the play and I was a little confused about what was going on for awhile, but of course it all sorted itself out. The cast was excellent and the lead characters were just fantastic, a little wierd at times, but fantastic nonetheless.

First a warning. If you are sensitive to near nudity, do not see this show. My wife and I nearly walked out due too much clothing being removed. Now that is out of the way, you may have noticed I gave "Prelude" a 5-star rating (this is only the second or third I've given). I've never seen the movie, did not know what to expect. We were glad we didn't leave because this production was unbelievable!! All the actors really hit the mark tonight!

Thoroughly enjoyed this event. The actors were professional, witty and entertaining. All the seats have a great view. The venue is small, but very connected to the stage. The feel is more like being at a restaurant (tables, chairs as opposed to rows of seats and a small bar on the end).

The production was well done--we had a very enjoyable evening. The Maverick always does an excellent job, in our experience. But we didn't find the lead's portrayal to be altogether convincing. It seemed too much like he was acting, if that makes sense. Consequently we never got completely lost in the story.
