In this Pulitzer and Tony-nominated comedy by Craig Lucas, a whirlwind romance and marriage takes a startling turn when an mysterious old man congratulates the bride with a kiss. With this kiss, Rita (the bride) and the man have what could be described as a Twilight Zone moment that sends Rita and her would-be husband on a mysterious journey, as they test the true strength of their love, beyond the surface connections that first drew them to one another. Prelude to a Kiss was commissioned and originally staged by South Coast Repertory in January 1988. The play later went on to Broadway and was made into a feature film starring Alec Baldwin and Meg Ryan. Staged Cinema Productions' performance of the play is directed by David Chorley. Learn More

Well, my fiance and I are very pro gay rights but when one of the male servers / actors gave a lap dance to a male friend sitting on the edge of the stage 15 min. prior to the curtain rising - we began to think this was a gay rights festival.Written on Mar 23 2009
As I recall, the Full Monty movie had no real gay theme. It was about a bunch of out of work men needing a way to make money. This version had two of the male workers kissing on stage as an addition to the plot. It added nothing for me. We would have been annoyed if a server had lap danced a member of the opposite sex. Neither of us are in any way anti gay nor prudes. We both voted for gay marriage rights.
I doubt that we will attend the Maverick Theater again. I didn't know what the term Maverick meant untl Fri. night.

This was great - well worth more than I paid for it. Went with two of my lady friends; we loved it.
The audience, and the atmosphere, was a lot of fun.
The first time we went to the Maverick Theater, we had a lot of trouble finding it - even consulting the Thomas Guide and calling the theater staff. My suggestion is, go north on Highland, turn right (east) before the underpass, on Walnut. The theater is right away on your right.

Description
Book by Terrence McNally
Music & Lyrics by David Yazbek
Directed By Roy Diaz & John Wirtz
The Full Monty was nominated for Best Picture in 1998, and from that comedy-that-could came the 2001 Broadway Musical The Full Monty. Since its debut on Broadway, the show has been a smash hit with critics and audiences across the country, and is more of the most frequently performed musicals in community and regional theaters nationally.
Seeing how much their wives enjoy watching male strippers during their "Girls' Night Out," unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo New York come up with a bold way to make some quick cash. In the process they find renewed self-esteem, the importance of friendship and the ability to have fun.
It's Buffalo, New York and the Steel Mill has closed. Jerry Lukowski is out of a job and he needs money before they take away his son. His solution: a one-night-only killing--as a stripper. Fifty thousand dollars is at stake for he and five other out-of-work steel rollers to take it all off for the women of Buffalo. Will they go 'The Full Monty' or will they chicken out before the curtain goes up?
As the guys work through their fears, self-consciousness, feelings of worthlessness and anxieties (over everything from being overweight to child custody, bigotry to being gay), they come to discover that not only are they stronger as a group, but that the strength they find in each other gives them the individual courage to face their demons and overcome them.
