The Full Monty was nominated for Best Picture in 1998, and from that comedy-that-could came the 2001 Broadway Musical The Full Monty. Since its debut on Broadway, the show has been a smash hit with critics and audiences across the country, and is more of the most frequently performed musicals in community and regional theaters nationally.
Seeing how much their wives enjoy watching male strippers during their "Girls' Night Out," unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo New York come up with a bold way to make some quick cash. In the process they find renewed self-esteem, the importance of friendship and the ability to have fun.
It's Buffalo, New York and the Steel Mill has closed. Jerry Lukowski is out of a job and he needs money before they take away his son. His solution: a one-night-only killing--as a stripper. Fifty thousand dollars is at stake for he and five other out-of-work steel rollers to take it all off for the women of Buffalo. Will they go 'The Full Monty' or will they chicken out before the curtain goes up?
As the guys work through their fears, self-consciousness, feelings of worthlessness and anxieties (over everything from being overweight to child custody, bigotry to being gay), they come to discover that not only are they stronger as a group, but that the strength they find in each other gives them the individual courage to face their demons and overcome them.
