Peter Morgan's Tony Award-nominated play that spawned the critically acclaimed 2006 film pits jet-setting British TV talk-show host David Frost against disgraced former president Richard Nixon in a battle of wits and wills. Desperate to regain his slipped standing as a serious journalist, Frost seeks to elicit from the Watergate-plagued Nixon a detailed explanation and apology, while the ever-political former president has his own agenda. This fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the famous 1977 series of interviews dissects the electrifying battle between Nixon and Frost, revealing both mens insecurities, ego and sense of dignity as they face off in a historic encounter that ultimately changes them both. A wonderful presentation of a complicated plot. The use of a revolving stage was tricky and the timing had to be perfect but it came off beautifully. There were even chase scenes!! This is a must see for anyone how enjoys great theatre.Written on May 10 2010

I've read the book and seen both movies and i have to say that this might be my favorite or second favorite version. it's tough to beat sinatra in the original movie but the actor did a damn good job. I also enjoyed the direction more than I did in the original. Also Maverick is a great venue. I look forward to going back soon to see the Producers.Written on May 03 2010

Hard to believe, but I have not seen the movies of this and have not read the book. But I can see how this work influenced many similar films. The turntable stage and additional filmed portions of this production were really great at keeping the story going. I thought everyone did a great job on their roles. I don't want to say more and spoil the story for anyone that is not familiar with it. But this production does give you a good idea of the environment of the country during the time period this story is set in.Written on Apr 27 2010

Description
Directed by Brain Newell
After fifteen years of wanting to tackle this incredible political thriller by Richard Condon, Maverick Theater owner and artistic director Brian Newell is ready. The staging is simple but unique, with 16 performers on a revolving stage with additional live video footage serving as the backdrop for the events.
Instead of the updated version portrayed in the film starring Denzel Washington, this version stays true to the novel, which was set during the Korean War.
"The script is so intriguing and offers us a great glimpse of the McCarthy years during the Cold War," says Newell. "Audiences will also be seeing some groundbreaking staging here at the Maverick." Newell, whose credits include Night of the Living Dead, The King and Frankenstein, the Prometheus Experiment, uses the same "Staged Cinema" approach with The Manchurian Candidate as he has with his past productions.
