It's "comedy tonight" in Stephen Sondheim's laugh-out-loud musical, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. In this season opener, travel with STAGEStheatre to ancient Rome and experience the zany antics of Pseudolus, a slave on a quest for freedom. This slapstick musical sings and dances its way through mistaken identities, a house full of courtesans and an elaborate web of lies that all lead to an uproarious night in the theater. The winner of six Tony Awards, this is one of the funniest musicals ever written. Sondheim and comic writer Larry Gelbart (M*A*S*H, Tootsie) seamlessly combine situations from the timeless comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the fast-paced, slapstick energy of classic vaudeville to create a nonstop entertainment extravaganza. I'm always interested in shows this theatre does and this was no exception. I saw a play that this playwriter did last year and I really liked it,so I was so glad to come and see this one. Great acting and writing and there is a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. See this show.
