Peter Morgan's Tony Award-nominated play that spawned the critically acclaimed 2006 film pits jet-setting British TV talk-show host David Frost against disgraced former president Richard Nixon in a battle of wits and wills. Desperate to regain his slipped standing as a serious journalist, Frost seeks to elicit from the Watergate-plagued Nixon a detailed explanation and apology, while the ever-political former president has his own agenda. This fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the famous 1977 series of interviews dissects the electrifying battle between Nixon and Frost, revealing both mens insecurities, ego and sense of dignity as they face off in a historic encounter that ultimately changes them both. What a masterful execution of “The Producers”. What was brilliant was the ability to bring a large Broadway musical onto a tight stage without sacrificing any of its size. Because of the area constraints, this hilarious musical gave a very intimate feeling, intensifying the comic acting of this well-casted ensemble performance. I can’t remember a more perfect costumed cast from its two leads and its quartet of zany second-bananas. Kudos has to be given to the clever choreography utilizing the tight quarters in all three-dimensions, especially in the “Medical Walker” & “Springtime for Hitler” medleys. This performance is a must see. Very, very funny.

Another hit at the Maverick. With Rick Franklin and a great cast how could you miss? Alot of the acting was over the top but isn't that Mel Brooks?
The actors energy made it's way into the audience.

Description

The Maverick Theater is squeezing one of Broadways biggest musicals on to their 20' foot stage and letting all the comedy pour into the laps of the audience. Maverick founder and director, Brian Newell, is using the theater's top comic talent to deliver all the laughs from some of the funniest characters ever written for the stage. Newell has also teamed up with choreographer and costume designer, Curtis Jerome, (RENT and Reefer Madness) to pull off those crazy dance numbers with the old ladies and their walkers and of course the tap dancing Nazis.
