In this Pulitzer and Tony-nominated comedy by Craig Lucas, a whirlwind romance and marriage takes a startling turn when an mysterious old man congratulates the bride with a kiss. With this kiss, Rita (the bride) and the man have what could be described as a Twilight Zone moment that sends Rita and her would-be husband on a mysterious journey, as they test the true strength of their love, beyond the surface connections that first drew them to one another. Prelude to a Kiss was commissioned and originally staged by South Coast Repertory in January 1988. The play later went on to Broadway and was made into a feature film starring Alec Baldwin and Meg Ryan. Staged Cinema Productions' performance of the play is directed by David Chorley. Learn More

Not too entertaining. I missed the chemistry between the two main characters as well as the comedy in this version.

The male lead was very, very good. The theater was almost unbearably hot, and we were all wearing shorts and sandals.

Great venue - just a little hot on a summer night. The cast was enjoyable, especially the actors who played the secretary, the wife, and Tom. They were a riot!

Very nice adaptation of the play. Enthusiastic performers and very energetic renditions. "THe girl" who remained unamed throughout the performance did an especially well rendered part, capitalizing on but not totally relying on the Marilyn Monroe personna that typifies her role. Loooking forward to more from the Mav.

More Information About The Seven Year Itch

Description

The Seven Year Itch, written by George Axelrod, was brought famously to the screen by the trio of Marilyn Monroe, Tom Ewell and director Billy Wilder. At it’s time The Seven Year Itch was a huge break though in censorship because of its lighthearted take on the theme of adultery. It is also considered by many to be Marilyn’s best performance. Before its jump to the silver screen The Seven Year Itch was a successful play on Broadway, winning high acclaim for both Ewell and playwright George Axelrod. Axelrod went on to write screenplays for Breakfast at Tiffany’s and The Manchurian Candidate.

Richard Sherman’s wife of seven years is on vacation, and he’s left to himself in his Manhattan apartment, when an attractive young lady drops a tomato plant onto his patio and comes downstairs to retrieve it. His immediate attraction to the young lady simply called ‘The Girl,’ proves to be a mental obstacle course for Richard that builds up to the ultimate question: Will he go through with it?
