Peter Morgan's Tony Award-nominated play that spawned the critically acclaimed 2006 film pits jet-setting British TV talk-show host David Frost against disgraced former president Richard Nixon in a battle of wits and wills. Desperate to regain his slipped standing as a serious journalist, Frost seeks to elicit from the Watergate-plagued Nixon a detailed explanation and apology, while the ever-political former president has his own agenda. This fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the famous 1977 series of interviews dissects the electrifying battle between Nixon and Frost, revealing both mens insecurities, ego and sense of dignity as they face off in a historic encounter that ultimately changes them both. Adapted from the independent student film, this version features plenty of laughs and surprises for anyone in the audience. There are plenty of things to like about this performance: the songs, the performers and the nice pace of the entire show. We must have gone during “family night” because it felt like many members of the audience were friends of the performers; those on stage only needed to make the slightest of gestures to elicit a bevy of hyena like laughs. That aside, it was a very nice theater with a great staff. I will definitely be back for other shows here!

This is definitely worth the effort. Cute and funny. The Maverick is a small venue with all the right stuff. What it lacks in budget, it makes up for in character and charm. The 9:30pm show was ideal. We went to The Twisted Vine and has a fantastic offering and amazing service, then to the show, then back to finish our wine. Perfect evening!

We sat in the 2nd row and thoroughly enjoyed this musical/play. The players use the aisles to enter the stage at times so sit in the center if possible. It was cute and funny and the lead singers were very good. You should definitely see this play.

More Information About Zombie Love: The Musical

Description

The Maverick Theater brings the world premiere of Zombie Love: The Musical to the stage, adapted from the award-winning short film Zombie Love by Yfka Van Bercklaer and Darren Herczeg.

Writer/director Erik Furuheim has been a fan of zombie-themed films for most of his life. He first saw Zombie Love in 2009 and immediately contacted the creator, Yfka van Bercklaer, to secure rights for a stage adaptation. He was certain the film would translate well onto the stage, and he knew The Maverick Theater was the perfect home for the venture.

“After being a part of Night of the Living Dead at the Maverick for three years and seeing the audience’s overwhelming response to zombies on stage, I knew this would be a great addition to our Halloween lineup,” said Furuheim. “I had to make it happen. A year later — here we are.”

This fresh, new adaptation for the stage makes use of the film's original lyrics, but includes a completely re-envisioned score, composed by music director Benjamin Sagan.
