The acting was first rate; the costumes were excellent; and, pre-theater entertainment was amusing. The theater has an intimate setting, plenty of free parking, and we were one row removed from the stage.
Plan to arrive early with a picnic and a bottle of wine; there is plenty of grass to spread a blanket and have a leisurely dinner before the play.
This is our second trip to the Festival Amphitheater and we will definitely return.

This is Shakespeare OC's first history play in over 20 years, and like all of their work - it is a superb production. The acting - direction - accessibility to the text - "We will say that we were there on St. Crispin's Day!"
Treat yourselves to WONDERFUL THEATRE!!!!

Shakespeare OC is always really fun to see -- They put together a great show and have some excellent players at their service!!

The seats were great and the play was excellent. Great acting!

This was our first time at this theater. Not a bad seat in the place. The performers were excellent! Hope to visit the Festival Amphitheater again soon.

I've seen a few of the OC Shakesphere productions. Always great quality and excellent entertainment. I enjoy the outdoor feel. The only problem is the additional noises from outside the theater such as loud cars, fireworks and a rather noisy group of kids just right outside. But its not anything that can be helped!

This was a fun evening. It was also theater without the cast being miked...which was nice, but you lost some of the words. The theater is nice and you are not very far from the stage.
All in all it was a really nice evening.
I would certainly recommend it.

Agh Shakespeare within walking distance from my house, how could that be bad?! The acting was fantastic with very minimal props and scenery. The theatre, with facilities remininscent of my high school football games, was great under the open sky. Weather was nice, however; I would consider bringing a seat cushion on the chairs as by second half I was wishing for one...also, if you get cold, consider a light blanket or jacket to fend off the breeze. Other suggestions - give the plot summary of Henry V a quick read if you aren't accustomed to the language, although I have went to other plays during the first half I felt a little lost on occasion because of the heavy Shakespearian language and go for the 7:30 pm lawn show - which was fun...many people took picnic food/blankets, etc. for this. Overall I have enjoyed other Shakespeare plays (Taming of the Shrew, Midsummers Nights Dream, and R&J) in the past because there was more of a love story involved, while this one is more history-based...my fiance also enjoyed it and commented it was a nice way to spend an evening out of the house!

I totally recommend this play. It is well staged and acted in the unique outdoor theatre in Garden Grove.
I also recommend the fun 7:30 p.m. pre-show, too. Come with a picnic dinner and enjoy it on the lawn while watching the pre-show.

The lead actor was unconvincing, uncharismatic. The swordplay was amateurish, and music - non-existent, the words inaudible most of the time. This performance was not nearly as professional as other Shakespeare companies in LA - like "A Noise Within" in Glendale. This performance was so bad that I didn't even clap, and left as soon as the last line was uttered.

The whole performance was a great one at that! Loved how even though the subject matter was serious, they had humorous aspects to the show. All actors and actresses did a spectacular job. Would definitely see more performances like this in the future.

I have attended many Shakespeare plays at this theater and found them very good. This play, Henry V, was poorly done primarily due to the quality of the actors. I will wait a year or two before visiting this theater again. I am sad the quality of actors has deteriorated to this level.

Everything went smoothly. The seats were great, even buying at the last minute. I enjoyed the play and was tremendously impressed with the theater!

Henry V is not my favorite play, but the actors did a very good job.

Our seats were great - third row, just off center. Although HenryV is not my favorite Shakespeare play, this company does such a fine job - every word is audible. There is a good combination of young and more experienced actors.

I had a great time!! Great seat selection, great performance!! Looking for to attending the "Tempest". Thank you Gold Star!

Second act was especially good.
David Denfield's Henry V was more rounded than I've seen.
Surprisingly good for such a small venue.
Professional.

Listening to Shakespere is like trying to focus on those 3d pictures-at first, you strain to see the hidden image. Then, you relax the effort and voila! The obscured pops out and reveals the picture clearly. Last night's performance was powerful and actually brought a tear during Harry's eloquent soliloquy regarding his impact on troop morale and ownership of spiritual responsibilities. I have never seen a play by the Bard so well done as this one.

I purchased these tickets for a group event and was thrilled to see that our tickets were front row! All the actors were excellent, the staging was very well done, costumes great. Overall a wonderful performance and my group had a great time!

The play offered lots to discuss, but generally the acting company did not offer a united presentation. Secondary characters (particularly the Equity actors) seemed to upstage each other (in terms of accents, facial grimaces, etc.), and the lead did not convey the complexity of Henry V's character that Shakespeare created. Still, I support Shakespeare Orange County and cannot wait to see The Tempest in August.
Shakespeare Orange County's season starts off with Shakespeare’s history, Henry V. The story of one of England’s most respected monarchs, Henry V, known for uniting Britain, in a successful quest for the unification of both England and France. Set against the backdrop of war, Shakespeare’s epic work questions the subject of war.
The Bard’s examination of the dynasty of Britain’s very own House of Lancaster is known for its famous speeches, as well as a courageous king and his undaunted men’s pursuit of victory in a long shot battle against the French. After four centuries, Henry V remains a shining star in the canon of world literature. Directing the production is SOC company member Carl Reggiardo, with David Denman (NBC’s The Office) slated to play Henry.
