Shakespeare and disco collide in the Ovation Award-winning Troubies' A Midsummer Saturday Night's Fever Dream. L.A.'s Troubadour Theater Company, known as the Troubies, are famous for their fast-paced acrobatic, comic and musical mashups of Shakespeare favorites with songs from hit pop artists, such as Romeo Hall and Juliet Oates and Fleetwood Macbeth. Now the Bee Gees and the Bard come together for this whimsical story of romance, mischief and magic. A Midsummer Saturday Night's Fever Dream features an ensemble of young lovers, fairies and actors who meet and get mixed up in the woods to the strains of famed soundtrack songs like "Night Fever," "Stayin' Alive," "Boogie Shoes" and more. The venue was nice. I enjoyed the open theater atmosphere though you could hear a background/traffic noise when it gets loud.
The play itself was a bit disappointing. The acting and the production was a little amateurish.
I hope that there be a better production in this venue because it's nice for OC to have its own mini LA Greek Theater or Hollywood Bowl.
Measure for Measure
is the Bard’s dark political comedy about government hypocrisy, the tightening of rules regarding sexual conduct (even in private), and “law and disorder”. Big Brother is at its best in Measure for Measure — but remember, it’s a comedy, and in the end “all’s well that ends well.”
