As much a cultural phenomenon as a theatrical event, Cats enjoyed a record-breaking run on Broadway and in London, thanks to its feline-inspired costumes, sets, dancing and memorable songs by famed composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. The story, inspired by a collection of poetry from T.S. Eliot, revolves around a tribe known as the Jellicle cats, and their leader Old Deuteronomy, who'll choose one of their group to be reborn that night after their annual ball. The longest-touring Broadway musical in history, Cats features 20 of Webber's timeless melodies, including the hit song "Memory," and was the winner of seven 1983 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The venue was nice. I enjoyed the open theater atmosphere though you could hear a background/traffic noise when it gets loud.
The play itself was a bit disappointing. The acting and the production was a little amateurish.
I hope that there be a better production in this venue because it's nice for OC to have its own mini LA Greek Theater or Hollywood Bowl.
Measure for Measure
is the Bard’s dark political comedy about government hypocrisy, the tightening of rules regarding sexual conduct (even in private), and “law and disorder”. Big Brother is at its best in Measure for Measure — but remember, it’s a comedy, and in the end “all’s well that ends well.”
