Members Who Went Said:I totally enjoyed every minute of the show... I would definitely attend the next function.
Beverly This was the first performance I had ever seen at the Ellington School and was blown away by the amazing talent of the student performers! I expected the show to be an entertaining high school production, but was not expecting to be moved to tears by it! The rendition of The Flower Duet from Lakme was absolutely breathtaking! I definitely plan on watching more performances at the Ellington School, so keep 'em coming!
Anonymous Member The concert featured Ellington high school students performing scenes from three operas. The presentation was just the right length, a little under 90 minutes. The costumes were gorgeous, the presentation, with narration, well done, and Teresa Ferrara, a high school senior, had an amazing coloratura voice! |

More Details About This Event: The Duke Ellington Opera Workshop, now in its 7th year, will present fully staged and costumed scenes from three operas: Lakmé, Madama Butterfly, and Don Giovanni. Lakmé, the story of tragic love between a British soldier and an exotic priestess in Colonial India, contains one of the most beautiful and familiar duets in all of opera. Madama Butterfly also is a tragedy of star-crossed love. Don Giovanni (or Don Juan as he is known in similar legends) knows very little about true love, but a great deal about wine, women and song.
