A MacArthur genius, a Grammy winner, a world premiere piece, timeless ragtime melodies, brass band marches, funeral procession music and more will mix as Orbert Davis and his Chicago Jazz Philharmonic ensemble play a festive Mardi Gras Carnival concert. Steeped in the rich musical culture of New Orleans, this program will feature the premiere of Survival of the Saints, a new work by Davis honoring the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Reginald Robinson, a pianist and MacArthur Fellow who’s celebrated for his innovative ragtime compositions, and Howard Levy, a Grammy Award-winning musician best known as a founding member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, will also be on hand. What a wonderful evening. the cast was outstanding, especially Jonathan Kraft who played Morgan. His performance was both nuanced and truthful. I hope I see more of him. If the run hasn't completed, I would highly recommend seeing this.
