This tragic love story of the beautiful Tosca, the painter Cavaradossi and their betrayal at the hands of the jealous Scarpia has become one of the most loved Puccini operas. This theatrically gripping play-turned-opera breeds intense emotions from the first three chords, now the famous "Scarpia chords," through to the twisting and tragic end.

This was my first attempt at opera and I was skeptical but, I absolutely loved it! It was so well done and the music, costumes, and sets were wonderful. And, I've heard that the opera in the city is very formal but everyone was dressy casual for this performance in Dupage.
If you like live plays, definitely give opera a try!
From the first minute the curtain went up I was hooked, Opera is wonderful. The stage sets were amazing, the music devine and the opera singers absolute heaven. The story was very intertaining. My seats were in the back row and I missed some events on the right hands side of the stage.
The McAninch Arts Center houses three theaters: the 793-seat Mainstage, where no seat is more than 16 rows, or 75 feet, from the stage; Theatre 2, a 186-seat hall featuring a "soft thrust" stage; and the Studio Theatre, a versatile, black-box performance space. Adjacent to the Mainstage lobby is the Gahlberg Gallery, a 90' x 25' space for visual art exhibition.
Political power and its abuse intensify the tragic love triangle between the fiery diva Floria Tosca, the handsome painter Mario Cavaradossi and the sadistic police chief Baron Scarpia. Obsessed with the tempestuous singer, the villainous Baron plays a cruel cat-and-mouse game with her and her lover. Tosca strikes a bargain with the diabolical Scarpia, only to experience horrifying consequences.
Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
