Lerner & Loewe's Brigadoon is the classic Scottish fantasy about a town that disappears into the Highland mist and returns for only one day every 100 years. The memorable score includes such classics as "Almost Like Being in Love," "The Heather on the Hill" and "Come to Me, Bend to Me."

Cute; went with a coworker who knew the whole score by heart, so she was singing along, which was kind of amusing. Everyone was in full and beautiful voice and staging was nice. Very pleasant experience, indeed!

What a cast! Special commendation should be given to our two leading characters Fiona & Tommy, who have great professional voices and an appealing onstage chemistry. But everyone in this large 22-member ensemble is perfectly cast and gives outstanding performances, all enhanced by individual headset mikes and full-orchestral prerecorded accompaniment.

And those production values! The wardrobe budget alone could probably feed a family of four for a year. The circular theatre preempts the use of sets, but the lighting, props, costumes and audio are all top-caliber.

Every seat in the large 500-seat theatre offers great views. One tip: everyone enters from the west side, which means it’s going to be more crowded during the performance than those seats on the east side. There may be a slight inclination to favor the west side during a performance, but it’s insignificant if you prefer to spread out a bit (purse, program, cooler, mini-bar, whatever …).

The only minor flaw may be with the work itself, which is slightly showing its age (and I’m a fan, owning the entire Lerner & Loewe canon on DVD). But for this family-oriented theater in this family-oriented town, one doesn’t expect experimental nihilism in the first place.
