Description
On January 19, 1787, the sweeping panoramic views and eclectic architecture of Prague set the backdrop for the highly-anticipated premiere of Mozart’s 38th Symphony. Now, pairing Mozart’s most dramatic Symphony with another world premiere, LACO recreates that excitement for the 10th anniversary of the Orchestra’s Sound Investment commissioning program. LACO composer-in-residence Derek Bermel's Mar de Setembro (“September Sea”) features the soulful vocals of Brazilian-born Luciana Souza in his genre-bending new work. Jeffrey Kahane and concertmaster Margaret Batjer start off the evening with Mendelssohn’s joyful Double Concerto, demonstrating the camaraderie intrinsic to the LACO experience.
Performers:
- Jeffrey Kahane, conductor & piano
- Margaret Batjer, violin
- Luciana Souza, voice
- Mendelssohn Concerto in D minor for Violin and Piano
- Derek Bermel Mar de Setembro (“September Sea”) Sound Investment commission (world premiere)
- Mozart Symphony No. 38 in D major, K. 504, “Prague”
