Get carried away by the sweeping melodies and emotion of the great Romantics. Jeffrey Kahane conducts Beethoven's pivotal Third Piano Concerto from the keyboard just as the composer himself did at its first public performance in 1803. Also an accomplished pianist, French composer George Bizet wrote his effervescent symphony at 17, although the work was not heard until 1935, 80 years later. By contrast, American composer George Tsontakis looks forward to being in the audience when his LACO commission premieres.

This is a superb orchestra that gets very little publicity. Even without its conductor the music making was excellent.Written on May 17 2010

Although Jeffery Kahane did not conduct this performance because of the passing of his mother, this was a wonderful evening of music. Beginning with George Tsontakis stepping in to conduct the world premier of his new work, Laconika, then continuing with piano soloist Shai Wosner leading Beethoven’s pivotal Third Piano Concerto from the keyboard, to the after intermission Bizet Symphony in C major conducted from the first chair by concertmaster Margaret Batjer this was another top-flight performance of the chamber orchestra. The evening dedicated to Jeffery's mother and to music critic Alan Rich seemed to spur the orchestra to even greater heights.Written on May 17 2010
